Okay, let’s face it, although all of the good food habits you’ve cultivated since you’ve started on your health journey may not have flown out of the window, you probably let things slide a bit over the summer holidays. I know I did, because none of us is perfect!
And what a summer it has been. We’re not used to these proper balmy temperatures in the UK, and we even hit records with the rising mercury this year, when Coningsby in Lincolnshire hit 40.3°C on 20 July. So, sticking to your healthy eating plan probably wasn’t at the top of your priority list when all you wanted to do was stay cool, and the restaurant down the road had air conditioning — and 2-for-1 pizza specials — and your local supermarket had a Bank Holiday 25% off Prosecco promo!
But not to worry, because there’s only one way to go after falling off the wagon… and that’s getting back on it. So, here are four tried and tested tips that I’ve used with myself and my clients over the years, that will help you to get back on track without beating yourself up, and will have you back in the saddle again in no time…
1. Water Ration
The number one thing you need to do is to make sure that you are properly hydrated, and that means drinking enough adequate clean water. That’s because most of us are dehydrated, because we don’t drink enough clean water. And when I mean water, I don’t mean coffee, tea, or even fruit juice, unless it has been juiced by you at home. Yes, fresh home juice does contain water from the fresh fruits and vegetables that you use, and juicing is a great way to hydrate and take in vitamins and minerals at the same time. However, one juice a day is enough.
For the rest, you should attempt to sip at least two more litres a day, throughout the day. Sipping your water will allow your body’s cells to take in the hydration optimally. If you gulp half a litre four times a day, then the water will literally rush straight to your bladder, and put you off wanting to drink water in the first place.
And the last thing to say about this important topic, is that when your body’s cells are adequately hydrated, you’ll probably find that you won’t be as hungry, or even think about food as much. More often than not, we think we are hungry because of habit and routine, not because we are actually hungry. And we can also think we’re hungry when we’re actually just dehydrated. So, be more mindful of your daily water sips — your body will thank you, and that I can promise!
2. Add Another Workout
Don’t roll your eyes, because simply adding one more 30-minute routine to your weekly schedule is often enough to get you back on track, as well as adding a bit more movement that will help you to feel better instantly. Even taking a 15-minute walk twice a day, morning and evening while there’s still enough light in the sky, will help you to do this. If you have a friend that will join you for either (or both), then you can even have someone that will help to keep you accountable while you get fitter.
Or what about joining B-Fit’s B-Fabulous Small Group PT and Yoga Course, which will allow you to get into a regular exercise routine and enjoy a couple of workout sessions each weekly with a highly experienced PT and Yoga teacher, from the comfort of your own home. So………..
- No more worrying about doing things the wrong way or wasting money.
- No more struggling with low body confidence
- No more gaining weight
- No more feeling fat, tired and frumpy and de-motivated
And the best thing is, if you can’t make the scheduled time slot twice a week, then I will send the recorded sessions to you, so that you can do them at a time to suit you!

3. Beat The Cheat
Don’t fall prey to having a cheat day, which can start off well, but then turn into a binge-eating frenzy that you will then fall prey to trying to overcompensate. And depending on your body composition, it can even promote the halting of your fat loss. So, just don’t do it. Of course, this doesn’t mean that you can never enjoy your favourite overindulgence. However, you should schedule it into your calendar, and only for one meal a week.
This way, you won’t feel like you’re depriving yourself of anything and you can have a bit of whatever you fancy. Plus, then you also won’t feel guilty about balancing out that burger and fries or Nando’s and chips with a healthy smoothie or salad for your next meal, which will act like a detox. And in the end, you’ll wake up the next day feeling much better about yourself. Facts!
4. Dry September
We’re all very familiar with Dry January, but what about going against the grain and making it a Dry September? Simply giving up the wine for a month will do wonders to get your health back on track, and I guarantee that you’ll feel better by the time autumn kicks in. Besides, drinking alcohol is just like drinking liquid sugar, which will not only spike your blood sugar levels, but will eventually lead you to gaining more weight. And that will defeat the purpose of putting in all the effort to lose weight that you already have done.
Conclusion
So, those are my top tips of getting back on track if you’ve overindulged this summer. And if you need a bit more help to control your sugar cravings or relieve digestive issues such as constipation or IBS, then Nature’s Sunshine Aloe Vera Juice might help. Aloe vera is more commonly used topically to treat sunburn, but using the gel internally can provide other health benefits to your digestion.
Research has shown that drinking aloe vera juice will not only help to improve your fasting blood sugar levels, especially in those with pre-diabetes and metabolic syndrome, but it even contains plant compounds that help to relieve constipation and acid reflux, as well as IBS. Simply add a couple of tablespoons into your favourite smoothie to mask the bitter taste. Your intestines will thank you!
