If you’re one of the many people who experience chocolate cravings, chances are you may be deficient in magnesium. Chocolate is jam-packed with the stuff, and if you’re low in it, you’ll crave it.
Magnesium is one of the most common minerals on earth and it’s essential for human health. This mineral is used in over 600 cellular reactions throughout the body. In fact, every cell and organ needs this mineral to function properly. It contributes to bone health, as well as brain, heart, and muscle function. It’s also an electrolyte, which means that if you’re low in it you’re likely to get muscle cramps and soreness regularly after exercise. But that’s not all. A deficiency of magnesium, which by the way is incredibly common can result in the following symptoms:
- Headaches
- Insomnia
- Constipation
- Fatigue
- Pain
- Memory loss
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Muscle pain
- Back pain
Also, if you suffer from tension or tightness, physical or psychological, it could again be a potential magnesium deficiency as it’s linked to these conditions too:
- Fibromyalgia
- Heart palpitations
- Osteoporosis
- Chronic fatigue
- Diabetes
- Asthma
- Parkinson’s
If you’re experiencing any of the above symptoms or finding yourself craving chocolate on a regular basis, make sure you get your magnesium levels checked out. If need be then supplement with NATURE’S SUNSHINE MAGNESIUM. Monitor your symptoms, and preferably try all the natural methods before going down the medication route. Food wise you can increase your intake of magnesium with things like spinach, brown rice, almonds, avocados, sesame and pumpkin seeds.
With pesticides, depleted top soils used for growing crops, and refined and processed foods everywhere, even those following a healthy diet will probably find themselves low on magnesium levels. This isn’t just because what we eat has low magnesium content but also because refined and processed foods actually strip our bodies of magnesium in order to be metabolised. Please note that sugar is one of the worst culprits for this.
The long and short of it is make sure you have your magnesium stores topped up.
