Generally, if you’ve become concerned about losing the extra flab you can see and feel on your tummy, hips and thighs, more than likely you’re only focussing on the fat, and doing your best to eat the right foods and do as much exercise as possible. However, there’s another very important aspect to losing weight that you may not have even considered until now, and that’s the role your liver plays in helping you to lose inches and feel even better about yourself.

The liver is our main organ in the detoxification process our bodies are constantly going through. This organ is the start of detoxification, helping the body to metabolise toxins into waste products that can then be eliminated through our urine and faeces. If our liver is overloaded with toxins (such as from sugar, alcohol, artificial sweeteners, pesticides sprayed onto vegetable and fruit, etc), then these excess toxins are stored in the fat cells, usually around our tummy.

The liver also effects so many other key functions within our body, such as metabolism and balancing our hormones. Therefore, it is vital that we give our livers some TLC to prevent it from becoming overloaded, so that it can eliminate toxins efficiently and prevent excess fat storage. In addition, toxic feelings and emotions are also stored in our livers. So, if you suffer from emotions such as frustration, irritability, resentment, rage and anger on a regular basis, then your liver is in need of some help, because this will also be the reason why you’re holding on to excess flab, especially if it’s sitting around your middle.

Our bodies, in this modern age, are constantly being bombarded with synthetic chemicals that our livers are not always able to process. So, what happens to these toxins in the body that the liver can’t process? They are sent to your fat cells and stored there until you detox your body to shrink the fat cells. Think of all the chemicals that you use on a daily basis. Even 30 years ago, most of the items you see on the supermarket or pharmacists shelves didn’t exist, and most of them contain concoctions of chemicals that are extremely damaging not only to the environment, but also your body, and liver.

For example, most personal care products, like makeup, shampoos, lotions and perfumes are absorbed into your skin. And more often than not, some of your favourite brands contain chemicals like parabens, formaldehydes, sulfates and phenoxyethanol, which is found in most perfumes and is dangerous if inhaled by babies and children. Even conventional toothpaste and medicines contain synthetic toxins that make your liver work more than it was designed to do.

Most conventionally grown food contains toxic pesticides that are sprayed on crops to kill weeds and pests, but to an already overtaxed liver, these toxins will instead be sent straight to your fat cells for ‘safe keeping’. So, as you can see, the toxic overload your liver is enduring could be the reason why you’re finding it so difficult to get rid of your flab.

Fat cells, unfortunately, never disappear from the body, although with the right amount of detoxification, they will release the toxins, shrink down in size and appear as if they’ve gone away. And as long as you stick to a relatively healthy lifestyle, with a regular practice of detoxification and doing the inner work needed to control your emotions, then your flab won’t return. So, how do you know for sure that it’s a toxic liver that you’re actually dealing with?

Symptoms of an Overstressed Liver

The diagnosis of a toxic body isn’t something that’s easy to identify, because there are many symptoms and conditions that mask the problem. And it is the symptoms you may go to your GP about that won’t deal with the root cause, which is the real solution. So, how do you know if your liver is toxic? Well, unless you only eat clean, nutritious whole foods, drink an adequate amount of fresh water, limit your caffeine intake, and consistently avoid processed food, then your liver is more than likely toxic. If you drink a lot of coffee, wine or other alcohol, eat takeaways regularly and are always tempted when offered biscuits at work, then you probably have a toxic liver. Other signs of a toxic liver include:

  • Sensitivity to certain foods
  • Chronic bloating, constipation or diarrhoea
  • Itchy skin or unexplained rashes
  • Lethargy and low energy
  • Headaches and other pain in the body
  • Unexplained weight Gain
  • Consistent insomnia

The great news about having this information, though, is knowing that you can help to support your liver to do the job it is meant to do.
